December’s celebration of Poetry@P&P will feature Hanoch Guy, Meredith Z. Avakian, and Kasey Jueds. The reading will take place on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. at the Pen and Pencil Club, and will be followed by an open mic hosted by Robert Zell.

Hanoch Guy, Ph.D., Ed.D ,spent his childhood and youth in Israel. He is a bilingual poet in Hebrew and English and an emeritus professor in Jewish and Hebrew literature at Temple University. He has published poetry extensively in the U.S.,.Israel, England, Wales and Greece.

Meredith Z. Avakian, affectionately referred to as “MZA,” is a Philadelphia-based writer, poet, and communications professional.  The emerging theme in all her work is speaking up for people and issues that tend to remain unheard.  MZA is the author of Propaganda Begins with PR: Poetry for the Soul and PRhyme Time: Power of Poetry. Her poetry also has been published in The Armenian Mirror-Spectator, The Armenian Poetry Project, The Literary Groong, and in a number of Poetry Ink chapbooks.

Kasey Jueds’s first book of poems, Keeper, won the 2012 Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize from the University of Pittsburgh Press. Her poetry has appeared in numerous publications, including American Poetry Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, Crazyhorse, Prairie Schooner, Manhattan Review, Salamander, Crab Orchard Review, Women’s Review of Books, and 5 AM; it has also been featured on NewsHour and Public Radio International’s “The Writer’s Almanac.” Jueds has been awarded residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Soapstone, and the Ucross Foundation. She lives in Philadelphia.
