About this event

Kristen Martin, a Philly-based author, talks about her book "The Sun Won't Come Out Tomorrow: The Dark History of American Orphanhood."

Martin combines in-depth archival research, memoir, and cultural analysis to explore the history of how the United States has treated dependent children from the 1800s to the present. Philadelphia features at several points, including a chapter that focuses on the recent SCOTUS case Fulton v. Philadelphia.

Martin is also a freelance writer and cultural critic with work published in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Review of Books, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The New Republic, The Nation, and elsewhere.

Martin will be interviewed by Jiordan Castle and answer questions from the audience.
