About this event
Learn about the illustrious history of commonplace books, an ancient form of journaling, and start your own. We will be joined by two expert speakers, Allie Alvis, Curator of Special Collections of the Winterthur Library, and Bryn Michelson-Ziegler, Associate Curator & Manager of Public Programs at the Rosenbach Museum & Library.
Once upon a time, every respectable (and most of the disreputable ones) writer kept a Commonplace Book; in it, they wrote down facts and fancies from their reading, song lyrics, news articles and even overheard conversations as they encountered them in their daily lives. While it’s now possible to press SAVE on everything, the effort of writing it down on paper just hits different. Bring your commonplace book if you already have one or a blank notebook if you don't and find inspiration in those kept by others.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended but not required (it helps us get a sense of who's coming!).
Sponsored by Trophy Bikes.
