Over a period of four years, documentary photographer Ted Lieverman spent 45 nights with Delta platoon at the Engine 8, Ladder 2 fire house in Old City.  They shared dinner and quiet times together, as well as the race to alarms for fires and medical emergencies.

Now, Tursulowe Press has published a collection of Lieverman’s photos from this project, Engine 8, Ladder 2: Philadelphia Fire Fighters at Night, which show what it means to live as a fire fighter, whether actively rushing toward danger or quietly preparing for it.

Lieverman will show some of his images and talk about how he created the project, his relationship with the officers and fire fighters, how he dealt with technical and access obstacles, and whether the dinners was as good as people say.

Lieverman is an independent documentary photographer and writer, concentrating on issues of work, social justice and post-conflict communities. He has photographed in a number of countries. His photos and stories have appeared in Global Post, Consortium News, Vietnam Magazine, Huffington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Asia-Pacific Journal, The Progressive (online), thINKing Dance, Metro Philadelphia, Transconflict, and several legal publications and NGO websites. His work has been exhibited at the Watermark and Fountain View Gallery, the Cherry Street Pier Gallery, Scribe, the Pen and Pencil Club, MANNA, the Foundation Inter-Art Gallery in Aiud, Romania; and the Photographic Society of Philadelphia.

He is a former photographer for Northstar Productions and associate producer for their documentary film Guazapa: Yesterday’s Enemies about post-war El Salvador.
